Day 2
Everyone says having a puppy is like having a baby. I roll my eyes at that because when a mom has a baby it is up to the mom to care for its basic needs. This puppy has 7 mothers so we all take turns. Not the same. However this morning while the puppy was crying in his crate and we were leaving for church, my husband and I look at each other with sympathetic eyes, and couldn't leave with him crying that like that. So my husband stayed home, got him to sleep then quietly sneaked out to go to church. Returning promptly after the first block to take care of him again. Tonight the oldest child gets to play mom and sleep with him on the back porch. I am crossing my fingers that she makes it through the night and that I won't have to stay up with him.

Day 1
We picked MOAB up in the afternoon. The kids are so in love with this puppy. He slept in my daughters arms the whole ride home. Once home he was ready to eat and play. He seemed to adjust well and wasn't frightened of his new environment. Neighbors oohed and awed, brought over puppy pads, gates, and books. At night we had two of the kids sleep on the back porch with him, he still whimpered and by 3:00 am the kids were at their wits end, they didn't know what to do so my husband sent them to bed and he went to sleep with the puppy. Isn't he a good looking dog!

Picking out a puppy.
Where to start? This could be a long story so I will start on June 27th. There is more to tell about our decision to get a dog, picking the perfect breed for our family and all the hard work the kids did to get a dog; but I will save that for later. For this first post I will tell you about the day we picked out our puppy.
As soon as we decided on a Brittany I searched the internet for a reputable breeder. The closest kennel I found that had a nice website with good looking dogs and puppies available was Stonewall Kennels in Harrisonburg Virginia. I called the owner to get more information and to set up a time to come and see his puppies. I wanted to go sooner than later so we could have more to choose from. The children were in debate whether to get a boy or a girl and they only had one girl left. I spoke with him on a Sunday and planned our visit for the following Thursday. My girls were out of town that week so it was just me and the boys. When we got there the girl had already been chosen which made things a little easier but not quite since the boys got attached to two different pups. In the end I made the executive decision. We took photos of the pup so when we came back in a few weeks we would know which one was ours. Above is the picture of MOAB at 6 weeks.

I love these trees!
You don't actually see the tree but what you see is the beautiful mess it makes. The blooms just fall like this, no staging.

New Project!!!
I had absolutely no hits on my blog last week, which is totally is understandable since I haven't been posting. So to remedy that and increase my hits I am starting a new photo project. The project will be to take a photo every day on my new iPhone. The idea is to prove it isn't all about the camera you have. It is about all the other elements that go into a good picture and controlling your environment with limited resources. Let me know how I'm doing and what you think!!
The first image is of the train station At Liberty State Park in NJ. After the immigrants were processed though Ellis Island the boat took them to this train station where they would board the train that would take them to other major cities where they might meet family, a new job, a new life a new adventure.
If you didn't know I really enjoy studying family history. I like to picture what it would have been like for those who came before us. Why they made the choices they did, what they sacrificed and why. How they might have felt. How I would have felt going through the things they went through. Seeing the Statue of Liberty brought a flood of emotions about how one might have felt after their long journey crossing the ocean to come to America. The idea of America and the freedoms it holds. It was very cool! If you love America you need to go to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island! I think I need to add to my bucket list to watch the fireworks at the Statue of Liberty, wouldn't that be something.
